Keri “THE Crusher” Scarr / Owner & Head Instructor

I began kickboxing at the age of 21 after having my son. Martial arts had always interested me and in order to shed some extra pounds, I heard that kickboxing would be a good cardio workout and stress reliever. I tried a class at Peterec's Karate/Kickboxing center in Victoria B.C. and automatically signed up for a full year membership. I started taking two classes per week when I had babysitters. Those nights became my special nights out as I was a stay at home mom. After going through belt tests and doing well at tournaments, I got the competitive edge and wanted to try my luck in the ring. I have realized that my true love for the sport was my passion to compete at the highest level possible and continue to learn and give back to the martial arts community.

I will do my very best to continue this journey to be a great and well rounded martial artist…

Tammy Benedict / Instructor & Sensei

I am a 45 year old woman that 30 years ago, sustained a lower back injury playing basketball. 20 years ago I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have had issues with my weight and low self esteem all my life.

I had my son Reilly in 2005, and as most moms do, wanted to lose the baby weight. I started taking aquatic boot camp classes and noticed a bunch of people having fun taking an aquatic kickboxing class led by Keri. I decided to give it a try and was hooked! I registered Reilly in Keri’s Martial Tots program as well and after a year, decided to try Keri's regular kickboxing classes. I was still very overweight and struggled, but I had found the one thing that I really enjoyed doing, so I stuck with it! With a change in my diet and exercise I managed to lose 65 pounds and have kept it off ever since. My body is stronger than ever, my Fibromyalgia is virtually nonexistent and I have confidence like never before.

I understand the struggles people have with weight loss and with the lack of motivation. I now enjoy helping people accomplish their goals and to push that little bit harder.

I look forward to staying strong and continuing to help people with their fitness goals.

“It is now 10 years later and I am pleased to say I earned my Black belt in December 2015 and am now working towards my 2nd degree Black belt.  There have been a lot of ups and downs along the way, as is normal in life, but I am still loving my journey with my teammates at CCS, or I should say my family at CCS, because when you join our team you become family.  I am trying not to let my age slow me down (lol) and am looking forward to seeing what the next 10 years has in store for me.”

Accomplishments:

  • 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kickboxing under Keri Scarr

  • Creator and head instructor of Tambo’s Power Blast Bootcamp program

I have been kickboxing for 9 years. I started kickboxing to get healthy and I realized very quickly how much I loved the mental and physical challenge it provided. I was able to experience the amateur ring on 3 occasions, with 1 win and 2 loses. I was lucky enough to find Crusher Combat Sports when my original gym closed down. Since joining Crusher Combat I have been able to widen my kickboxing skills, add in MMA and Jujitsu. I enjoy working with students and showing them that no matter how young, old or your fitness level, believe in yourself and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Accomplishments:

  • BLACK Belt in Crusher Combat Sports System

Soon I began signing up for tournaments and even though I had some early setbacks, I really enjoyed the experience and used it to get back to the gym and push myself to get better everyday. I currently have an advanced red belt in Muay Thai Kickboxing and hope to soon advance to Brown and eventually Black.

I started learning Kickboxing, no gi BJJ and boxing and the more I kept learning The more I started l growing my skills as Martial artist. Trading in the suit & tie every evening for boxing gloves & shin guards has been one of the best decisions I've made. Once clocking in 10-12 hour days in the office left me struggling to stay healthy, struggling to find a work-life balance, struggling to find time with my family, and struggling to find who I was as a person. I've now been training for close to 5 years at Crusher combat and it has given me more strength, focus, attention and confidence than I could have expected. Every day at the gym is the opportunity to melt away the stresses of life and interact with the many friends met through the years. The gym has become such a big part of my life, it is now a family affair. Getting the opportunity to learn and train with my wife and two sons has been the ultimate gift.

I've competed in several tournaments, and I don't plan on letting my age slow me down. I have desires to continue to compete for as long as my body lets me. "Learn one thing every day, teach one thing every day, and have fun doing it!"

Accomplishments:

  • Brown Belt in Crusher Combat Sports System

  • Boxing BC Certified Coach

Matt Rasmussen / Assistant Instructor

I’m Matt Rasmussen and I have been boxing for five years and competing for four. Boxing has been so much more for me than just punching a bag, it’s been a guiding light in my life creating structure and discipline I believe I have needed at times. Boxing keeps my physical and mental health in shape and it provides a place to express myself through movement and a certain fighting style. I hope to inspire the future boxers of Victoria the same way I have been.

Accomplishments:

  • BLUE Belt in Crusher Combat Sports System

  • Amateur Boxer

Rachel Greene / Assistant Instructor & Front Desk

I originally started training with Keri when she was offering kickboxing classes through rec centres before opening the gym! After being sidelined by an accident, I took many years away from training and activity and feel so grateful to have been able to return in June 2020. Both of my kids have been training since they were 3 yrs old and now it is very much a family love affair! There is so much more happening here than just kicking and punching…although that part is SUPER fun! Being part of this sport, practice and community has many benefits both physical and mental.

I’m proud to say that I am a lover and fighter in the Crusher Combat Family and I look forward to the chance to welcome you and maybe work alongside you or your kids in a class sometime soon!

My time at Crusher Combat Sports started in August of 2021 with a kickboxing class! I was training at home myself back in Australia and when I moved to Canada for a few months prior to coming to my first class at Crusher, not even 30 seconds after the class had ended I immediately knew I wanted to join the crusher family and so glad I did. I am currently ranked an orange belt and look forward to continuing on the belt journey down the line. I will be working the front desk Monday-Thursday & am excited to be welcoming each and every one of you to our gym everyday!

  • ORANGE belt through Crusher Combat Sports

Sean Renaud / Assistant BJJ Instructor

Sean comes from a family of martial artists, his grandmother was a competitive Judoka in the 1950’s and his father earned his second dan black belt, ran his own dojo and became the two time aikido champion of the British Aikido Association in the 1960’s. Sean dabbled in martial arts throughout his life, taking up Taekwondo, Aikido, and Karate, finally finding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when he joined South Island BJJ in 2018. Since 2018 Sean has found his passion in grappling, wrestling, no-gi and BJJ. Sean hopes that his passion for the grappling arts will inspire those that accept the challenge to embrace the grind and find their home on the mat.
